Georgia Internet for all

With its thorough map of broadband availability and generous grant funding to upgrade infrastructure and provide high-speed internet to homes and businesses across the state, Georgia has led the nation in broadband initiatives.

Georgia is now prepared to continue spreading broadband throughout the state thanks to additional funding that will be provided to the state for broadband infrastructure and related initiatives.

FCC Program (FCC).

The FCC, which offers $30 per month toward high-speed home internet, will be more widely known thanks to the efforts of a coalition of local leaders and community partners.

  • A statewide awareness campaign about the FCC Program (FCC), which helps lower-income families afford high-speed internet, was started today by the Georgia Technology Authority (GTA).

  • The FCC offers a one-time $100 discount toward a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet, as well as a monthly discount of up to $30 for qualifying households. Only 34% of Georgia's eligible households—1.6 million in total—have enrolled in the FCC thus far.

  • Georgian households are unable to work remotely or access essential government services, healthcare, job training, the social safety net, or other resources without high-speed internet access at home. Students are also unable to finish their coursework outside of the classroom.

  • Georgian families and students cannot work remotely or access healthcare, job training, the social safety net, or essential government services without high-speed internet access at home. Students cannot finish their coursework outside of the classroom.

  • According to Jessica Simmons, Deputy State Chief Information Officer for Broadband and Special Projects, "broadband is one of the most transformative technologies of our generation, but many people are left behind because they don't have reliable, affordable access to the internet." For millions of eligible American families, the FCC Program pays for the majority—and frequently the entirety—of the cost of high-speed internet. We have a fantastic opportunity to collaborate on this project in order to increase outreach and connect more Georgians."

  • The new program aims to increase household awareness of the FCC through state outreach channels and to promote cooperation between trusted institutions, local governments, and community-based organizations. Ensuring unconnected Georgians have access to the advantages of the FCC is the main objective.

Establishing Statewide Connectivity

Text

Georgia's economy is driven by digital connectivity, which is also essential for academic achievement. It promotes improved public health, strengthens social bonds, advances business, and reunites loved ones. But not everyone has inexpensive, dependable internet access.

Text

Many Georgians lack the digital skills necessary to pursue a career and do not have access to devices. Their participation in the digital economy and employment opportunities are restricted by this deficit.

Text

The state can address the issues of internet access, affordability, and digital literacy head-on with the help of resources and grant funds that are currently available. This will allow all Georgians to fully engage in the digital economy and enjoy its advantages. Everyone in Georgia will live in a more prosperous and connected state if the digital divide is closed.
